Dear prospective students and families,
As you settle into the new school year, you will soon be taking steps to plan your high school experience. Students who intend to apply to a Catholic high school must take the HSPT (High School Placement Test). This examination is required for all eighth-grade students applying to participating Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ, the Diocese of Paterson, NJ, and Rockland County, NY and is taken either in person at your Catholic school or at a designated test center if you currently attend a public school. Your HSPT results are a great way to showcase your academic skills and potentially be eligible for academic scholarships to one or more schools.
DePaul Catholic would like to take the opportunity to help you prepare for the HSPT. On Sunday October 22, we are administering a full-length, fully virtual, practice version of the HSPT. This test will be available to take between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm. It is important to note that we do not expect students to need the full 12 hour test session. Students will have the option of working at their own pace throughout the day as long as the practice test is submitted prior to 8:00pm. While the actual HSPT is timed, our goal is for students to familiarize themselves with the test format, explore the various types of questions, and work on self-pacing as they navigate each section.
Once the test is submitted, DePaul Catholic admissions and testing specialists will take time to carefully analyze the results and provide timely feedback about performance. Responses will be returned via the testing platform where students will be able to see each incorrect response along with the correct one.
It is our strong belief that preparation is the key to success on the HSPT. We want students to feel confident on test day knowing that they are familiar with the test format and types of questions and have worked on pacing themselves to eliminate potential stress and anxiety. After taking the practice test with us, students will have even more information to help guide their preparation to achieve their best results.
The cost for this session of the virtual HSPT practice test is $100.
The class will be capped at 30 students, once enrollment reaches that number you will not see that date as an option in the menu below.
Questions can be sent to admissions@dpchs.org or ForsythK@dpchs.org.
We look forward to helping you prepare for your future!
Best,
