DePaul Catholic has a rich tradition. The program has helped develop students as athletes and well-rounded young adults. The swim team continues to grow and helps motivate student athletes to be the best that they can be.
As a part of the Big North Conference, the DePaul Catholic Swim Team competes against some of the best teams in the state. As former Olympian Daley Thompson once said, “If you want to be the best, you have to compete against the best.” Being in this division allows for the swim team to compete at a high level. Dual meets take place at various aquatics facilities in North Jersey including Passaic County Technical Institute which is our home pool, the Boys & Girls Club in Clifton and Lodi, and several other locations. Swimmers who qualify for Meet of Champions have the opportunity to compete at Gloucester County Technical Institute with the top swimmers in the state swim.
Coach Russo’s philosophy when it comes to the swim team is to focus in on the TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More). When athletes work together, success comes naturally. Outside of creating an environment which allows for maximum team chemistry, it is important to focus on the swimming aspect as well. Coach Russo likes to make sure that all athletes have the ability to improve by varying his coaching methods to meet their learning style. Whether it is visual, audio, or kinesthetic, Coach Russo tries to teach to each individual.
