Welcome from the School Chaplain

Greetings Spartans,

As we begin a new school year, I am blessed to serve alongside our dedicated Campus Ministry Team here at DePaul Catholic High School. Together, we are committed to helping every member of our school community grow in faith, deepen their relationship with God, and live out the Gospel in meaningful ways.

Our mission is rooted in the belief that God calls each of us to grow into the person He created us to be. One of my guiding mottos in my priesthood, a quote from St. Francis de Sales, is: “God has made you to bloom.” This year, our hope is to create opportunities for every student, faculty member, and family to discover and nurture the unique gifts God has planted within them.

Through prayer, Scripture, retreats, service, the celebration of the Sacraments, and authentic Christian community, we seek to make faith not just a subject we study, but a way of life we share. We want our faith to be alive, relevant, and active—both in the hallways of DePaul Catholic and in the world beyond our campus.

We also know this work is never done alone. Campus Ministry is a team effort—students, faculty, parents, alumni, and friends all play a part. Together, we will build a community where Christ is at the center, love is the standard, and service is the natural response to God’s goodness.

Christian Service Program

The motto of De Paul Catholic High School is “Deus est Caritas” which means God is Love. As Saint John reminds us, that because God is love, Jesus commands us to love one another as he has loved us.

“This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you.”

John 15:12

Saint John reminds us that if we follow Jesus’ commandment, then we are united with Jesus and share in His Spirit.

"Beloved, since God loved us so much, we should love one another. No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is made complete in us. This is how we can be certain that we abide in Him and that He abides in us: He has given us a share in his Spirit”

1 John 4:11-13

In keeping with the spirit of charity and service of Saint Vincent de Paul, Saint Louise de Marillac and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, DePaul Catholic High School students participate in Christian Service programs focused on serving those who are most in need. Saint James reminds us that faith without works is dead.

"What good is it, my brethren, if someone claims to have faith but does not have good works? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is naked and lacks his or her daily food. If one of you says to such a person, “Go in peace, keep warm and eat well,” but does not take care of that person’s physical needs, what is the good of that? In the same way, faith by itself is dead if it does not have works.”

James 2:14-17

Christian Service PROGRAM Contract (2025-2026)

Service Learning

Service-learning is an educational approach that uses community service to meet both classroom learning objectives and societal needs. Service Learning takes our students' service experience to an enhanced level because it combines our required community service with academic instruction, community assessment, and self-reflection.

Among the Service Learning opportunities afforded to students at DePaul Catholic are:

Midnight Run - going to New York City at midnight to feed and clothe the homeless.
Sorting food at the food pantry - our many hands can do a week's work in a few hours.

In addition to Service Learning, the National Honor Society, Interact Club, and the Leo Club plan and sponsor numerous service projects and activities, in coordination with the school's Theology classes, throughout the year. Several are listed below.

Peer Ministry

The Peer Ministry Team has been an important part of the history of DePaul Catholic High School. The student leaders of this ministry have a reputation among their teachers and peers as servant leaders, role models, and outstanding representatives of the school.

Peer Ministry Team members are expected to:

Attend regular meetings once a month throughout the school year, (times of the meetings will be posted in a regular pattern and may be either in person or virtual depending on the situation).
Set a good example as a role model for other students (Appropriate uniform, use appropriate language and manners, and more within the school and outside in the community).
Take leadership responsibilities to organize and implement discussions, projects, retreats, and the like.
Assist in planning and participating in retreats across all grade levels (Peer Ministry Class).
Volunteer for other activities at the request of the Campus Ministry Team.
Serve at Mass as a lector, altar server, gift bearer, Eucharistic Minister.
Lead group discussions on student retreats.
Give talks at student retreats.
Participate in school-wide Advent and Lenten reflections/prayer services.
Lead school-wide morning prayer over the P.A. system and offer to lead prayer in the classroom. (See Sr. Jeanne and your classroom teachers)
Lead prayer at other school events, such as orientation days.

Any interested student from grades (10-12) can complete an application and sponsor form. Based upon a student's application and adult sponsor form, qualified candidates will be interviewed by one or more members of the Campus Ministry Team. This interview will be the final determining factor regarding acceptance to the Peer Ministry Team.
