School & College Counseling

From the Director of School & College Counseling

As we embark on a new school year, each of us starts our own new journey. For some of us, as new or incoming students to DePaul Catholic High School, it is the beginning of our journey. For others such as our seniors, it is the start to the end to their four years in high school that will lead them onto a new future path and career opportunities.

For me personally, my journey brings me back to DePaul Catholic High School as your “new” Director of School and College Counseling. DePaul Catholic was a place I called home not so long ago, and I am excited to be back at a place that I look forward to going to each and every morning. I hope that our students feel the same way, and that their high school years spent at DePaul Catholic are some of the most rewarding times of their lives.

As Director, I am excited to work with our other school counselors as well as the rest of our administration, faculty, and staff to help your child have the best experience possible. Our department is here to assist your son or daughter in many different aspects of their high school day, and we are an integral part of their experience throughout their time here.

Students are assigned a counselor throughout their four years at DePaul Catholic based on their grade level and last name. Those counselor assignments can be found on our website. Each counselor will have various planned meetings with our students throughout the school year and are always available should a student need to see them. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's counselor at any time if you have any questions.

Some of the areas our counselors will work on with the students include providing academic advice and support, assisting with the social and emotional well-being of our students, college and career guidance, course planning and scheduling, and administration of standardized testing.

In addition to those areas, our department also hosts several important information nights that focus on college planning and financial aid, NCAA athletic information workshops, and information sessions targeted to our underclassmen and their needs.

Once again, I am excited to be back at DePaul Catholic High School and can't wait to get to know all of the students and their families. I wish all of you the best and I am looking forward to a great school year.

Be well and stay safe,

John Galka M.A. Ed
